1. If you could describe your job to a 5 year old, how would you describe it?
My team is in charge of the first thing you see or do when the Peacock app launches or when you arrive at the website. We architect and design the virtual Welcome mat, the front door and even the key for the lock. My goal is to make that first moment so compelling and easy, there is no other choice but to enter the house. It's the app equivalent of a crackling fire and cookies just out of the oven. "Please come in. We've been waiting for you."
2. What has inspired you lately?
Just after lockdown, I discovered Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. I found that taking even just 15 minutes a day on the mat calmed my mind, my soul and my heart. Adriene was also unlike any yoga teacher I had ever experienced. Her yoga practice wasn't about a perfect pose, it was about breath and focus and honoring yourself. It was about "showing up on the mat," as she would say. I recently listened to a relatively long podcast interview with her and I was struck by her own life's journey and her commitment to service. Through her practice and her words, I have been able to discover and embrace more moments of joy, friendship, connection and support—things that can seem elusive during these dark times. She is a force of love. And inspires me to be the same.
3. If you can thank someone that helped get you to where you are now, who would you thank and what would you say?
I have been incredibly lucky to have had phenomenal managers and mentors throughout my career. There have been so many people who guided me, shaped me and pushed me when I thought I couldn't keep going. When I was just out of college, I took a job as a personal assistant to a San Francisco entrepreneur—Juli Betwee. She was one of the first professional mentors I had who took the time to dig in and discover what lay beneath my hard candy shell. She suggested books, articles, and networking groups that could propel me forward and lift me up. She really believed that greatness lay ahead for me and never hesitated to invite me into a room to connect with her friends and colleagues. She and her circle of women were brilliant, kind, successful and, sometimes, it felt like they were the ones running San Francisco. She was a friend, as well as a boss. She was someone I wanted to emulate. And she was, thankfully, just one in a long line of women who gave me the tools to believe in my own potential, my own power. Women like Juli fed the virtuous circle of mentorship. A circle I hope I continue to be a part of today.
